I grew up in Southern California, got a degree in Biology at CSU Fullerton and obtained my dream job: animal trainer at the San Diego Zoo. It was fun, rewarding and created lifetime memories and (hopefully) friends. I worked with sea lions, wolves, cheetahs, hawks, owls, eagles, horses (mini- that is), tamanduas, even a porcupine and so many other species. Funny thing about dream jobs is, sometimes you change and they’re no longer your dream. That was a hard transition. What do you do when you’re living the life you always wanted to, but now it’s not what you want anymore?

For me, I quit, uprooted, moved to Seattle and changed my life. I went back to school, got my RN and found the love of my life. Isn’t it funny? While I’ll readily admit, I have plenty of days working as a nurse where I ask myself “Why did I give up walking cheetahs and playing with wolves?” The answer is easy; now I’m happy. It wasn’t an easy transition, but wow, was it worth it. Now, I have a husband, a dynamic career and a completely new life.
